John,

I don't believe you don't need to do the formatvol. You install the new
drive. I assume everything is the same because your just replacing a drive.
When you do a DSTAT ALL, you should see the drive in a "Unknown" state.

In VOLUTIL, you use the NEWVOL command and it will do its thing. If I
remember right, FORMATVOL takes awhile. Being ADD, I don't want to wait
around.
