Well, I went to HP instant support for my 2840 not responding to pcl5
commands (as far as fonts and sizes go). After a couple of days of
discussion, trying to explain its NOT a driver problem, there is no windows
application involved, installing a later version of the printer's firmware
with no change, they gave up and asked me to call a number that turned out
to be a sales office.....

Correct me if I am wrong, but if I was printing from UX, it still wouldn't
be a driver issue , would it? Are there driver options for printers there?

Manual says it is pcl5 compliant, one config option called personality has
options of Auto, pcl5e, and ??, but selecting pcl5e has no effect, and it
seems to spontaneously return to auto. There is a system print setup item
that allows selecting font codes 0 to 21 for pcl5e, but I have no idea what
this means, and cant find it in a manual.

Searching the hpitrc forums there are others reporting similar problems.
Also it seems that HP have restricted access to the PCL6 documentation to
special development partners, so there is no data available to us as there
was for pcl5...

So this is progress is it?
