The last time I hooked on of these up, my understanding was that LDEV 21 is reserved for the HP Support Modem and that it should be configured at 2400 baud. Anyone on the list have more up-to-date info on this?

To whom it may concern:

It is obvious that when connecting a modem to LDEV 21
on any HP is a pain in the ass. I'm trying to do
that presently with one of my clients.

They have a US Robotics 56k modem. If tried to
configure and reconfigure it many times to work off
LDEV 21 but have been unsuccessful.

We thought it may have been the cable but we tested
the cable with another modem (GVC) off the same port
and it worked.

Does the US Robotics modem require a specific type of
configuration? What should the settings for the dip
switches be on the modem? Does the HP itself need to
be configured a specific way? I had heard that a
string of characters had to be entered in order for
the modem to be able to communicate properly with the
HP.
In case you need to know, I'm trying to connect the
modem to an HP937LX. Any help would be greatly
appreciated.

Thxs Oscar
