We upgraded from 4 to 5.5 a couple of weeks ago. I haven't got a clue as to
what patches are involved as that's not my "department" but I know our
sysadmin is reading this and may want to reply. I can however generalize
and comment on how the process went :
-Smooth. Mainly thanks to the preparation our sysadmin did.
-Allow about 8 hours for it.
-We recompiled everything once on 5.5 but I'm not sure it's required
-We went to 5.5 from 4
-The systems were down all Sunday so the users "didn't feel a thing"
-No unpleasant side effects except for :
-the way FTP handles small to big file transfers.
-two, long winded, weekly, data validation jobs we execute. They take
forever now (still investigating)
-Our applications are mainly Transact/iX, VPLUS, COBOL, KSAMXLs etc.
-We needed more disk space on one of our systems and that was done at the
same time
Not sure how useful all this stuff is. I'm intending it more as a moral
boost and a "success" story than anything else ... :)
