Please forgive the intrusion. This is not strictly a hpux
problem, but I am getting nowhere on the sendmail usenet
feed so I am turning to the hp admins here for help.

I have the following:

mail-hub - smart host. One machine doing everything. HPUX-
10.01, sendmail 8.8.7, bind 4.8.3. Supports virtualusertable
and virtual domains. Uses Cyrus imapd 1.5.14 for local
delivery. Works fine but is seriously over loaded.

I need to set up the following:

mail02 - smart host, relays all "local" domains to existing mail-
hub for local delivery. MX backup for mail-hub. MX backup for
mail03. On same netblock and Inet node as mail-hub.

mail03 - smart host, relays all "local" domains to existing mail-
hub for local delivery. MX backup for mail-hub and mail02. On
a separate netblock and Inet node.

If anyone has sufficient experience to guide me through this I
would be very appreciative. If this is a major undertaking and
someone wishes to propose a fee for accomplishing the
desired results using the m4 configuration routines (hand
customized sendmail.cf files will not be contemplated but
local rulesets that can be placed in a domain.m4 file or .mc
file may be) then please send me your offer.

I have been banging my head against this for the better part of
two weeks. I can get parts of it to work and parts don't. For
some reason, some users addresses on the mail hub resolve
for local delivery and some don't. Since the virtualusertable is
configured to resolve unknown addresses to a domain
postmaster I deduce that the relay machine is rewriting the
addresses in some fashion or that the mail hub is treating
incoming relay messages different than mail send directly to
it. In any case the thing isn't working and I have reached
about as far as I can go on my own.

Thank you for your forbearance.

Regards,
Jim
