Stan was asking about the numbering of MPE versions, such as that
reported by SHOWME:

> > RELEASE: C.55.01 MPE/iX HP31900 C.05.08 USER VERSION: C.55.01

I would like to add my 2-bob's worth on this - I have ALWAYS been
totally confused about the MPE operating system version numbering - I
was able to guess that "55" was version 5.5, and guessed that the
"55.01" was something like version 5.5.1, but the "C" had me
wondering especially as the previous version (4.0) was prefixed with
"B".

I must confess my ignorance on issues such as "Express" releases &
patches - system management has always been done by other people.

Could I suggest that HP have a good look at version numbering and
bring it in line with generally accepted systems. Maybe something
like reporting in the SHOWME output:

   MPE/iX v5.5.01 (HP31900 C.05.08)

Is the "USER VERSION" required? If it is required, could it be
called something less confusing?
