Apparently, he's not a science fiction reader.  The concept was
written about in the 50s and 60s (and probably afterwards), IIRC.
The *implementation* may be new, but the concept isn't new.

"Jerry Was a Man", by Robert A. Heinlein, would qualify as at
least one prior example.  It's available in "Assignment in Eternity" at
