If the user is still signed on and this is a vt session, then NSCONTROL
STATUS or the freeware SHOWCONN will give you the node name.

Has anyone got any ideas as to how i can get a nodename from a

I need to track down a user and only have the IP address. If i can get
the

If you talking about standard resolving - then DNS is your best answer.
BIND/iX exists in FREEWARE mode (but not for the feint of heart). The
easiest implementation is to use a HOSTS file (check the docs on your
hardware platform - PC, NT, HP3000, etc) as to where it goes.

Maybe a better option would be:
in posix land: nslookup
in mpe land: ghn (available from http://qwebs.qss.com/ghn.zip)

i'll chime in with:
go a step farther: if you can do use dns -- preferably hosted
off of some other (un*x) box :-). gets you out of the ip/host
name maintenance business...lets you focus on keeping your
3000(s?) happy. i'd not recommend using the hosts file
unless you don't have dns available. as far as maintenance is
concerned, the hosts file isn't much different than using nsdir (imo).
setting your 3000 up to use dns isn't that hard -- shoot, i even
figured it out :-) dns is not for the feint/faint of heart -- hence
joe's warning. nslookup seems to work well --if just a tad
slow (anyone know why?). i haven't tried ghn... - d
