The reason came to mind is:

1) I was told a user cannot stand before the console for more than 10 minutes without their fingers going numb.

2) It was mentioned the cold air blast pointed directly at the top of the rack the HP3000 was in.  The tape drive generating symptoms is also mounted at the top of the rack.

3) The data center is in the middle of Ohio, so I expect some Midwestern humidity.

4) Symptoms are frequent DLT requests for cleaning, even with known good tapes from another machine from another data center from another state.

I could replace the DLT easy enough, but at this rate I seem to be replacing it 3 or 4 times a year.
