How is BIRTH-DATE defined? If it is not an UNSIGNED ZONED DECIMAL
then some form of conversion is required and no, POWERHOUSE does not
auto-magically guess (and neither does SUPERTOOL) when the user wants
their data converted to ASCII and when they do not. The user has to
tell it on a case by case basis. If the original data is already
UNSIGNED ZONED DECIMAL then it is already an ASCII string as well and
no conversion is necessary.
