Hello all:
I'm having a problem printing to Netware/iX print queues from Win95.
Platforms: Win95, Novell Client32, Netware 4.11 (NDS), Netware/iX 3.11a,
MPE/iX 5.0 pp6
The user logs in to Netware 4.11 and attaches to Netware/iX (bindery
context) to obtain access to the print queue. We use Netware/iX as an
*expensive* print server for DTC-attached spooled printers.
The error message he gets when he tries to print:
There was an error writing to \\HPSERVER\FINQ for printer (Finance
Laser Printer)
Cannot complete this function.
The printer will be set to work offline.
To save your...
I tried port redirection in Win95, as well as adding a new port with the
\\server\queue - same results.
Related strange behaviour (encoutered during test):
On a Win 3.1 machine with VLM Client, I can print to my Netware/iX queues.
On a Win 3.1 machine with Client32, I can print to my Netware/iX queues.
On a Win 3.1 machine with Client32, I can do a DOS Capture and COPY CON LPTx
On a Win 3.1 machine with Client32, I can map to Netware/iX SYS: volume, BUT
if I issue a DIR command or NDIR command, the directory is empty. Strange
behavour. Root of SYS: - I can't see PUBLIC, but I can map to SYS:PUBLIC,
and I can't see any files here either (i.e. I can't see my file system!)
Same behavour in Win95: I can capture and print in DOS window, I can't
print in Win95, and I can't see dir contents (in either DOS window or Win95
Explorer).
So the problem is Win95 -- > Client32 --> Netware/iX
I haven't tried to install VLM Client in Win95 yet. I like Client32 on
Win95 and would prefer to stay with it (and I hate to go backwards).
Now I DO have a workaround: print to my Netware 4.11 print queues, but for
the user in question, it means he has to walk twice as far to get his reports.
Have any of you encountered this problem? Even MORE important, have any of
you resolved this problem?
Many thanks in advance,
