To decrease the job from taking all of your system, reduce it's run
priority. Do a showq command to find the pin number of the Jobstream that
is causing the problem and to see what your circular queues are set to. If
the HP3k is using the default setup then the "E" queue will be the lowest.
Example: jobstream =#j1234 then do this mpe command....
..........mpeix: altproc job=#j1234;tree;pri=es ...................
This lowers the jobstream and all children processes to the low "E" queue
so any regular "D" queue jobs or "C" queue sessions will get the CPU first.
You can also use the "TUNE" command to temporarily change the "E" queue
quantum and tslice (time slice) so it only takes a very small amount of CPU
when it's gets its turn. If you have SM capability you can set the PRI= to
a specific number. (PRI=240)
Hope this helps,

Subject: [HP3000-L] Orbit restore job not budging...

Hi Everybody!

I have an Orbit restore job that is hung on the system. I cannot abort or
suspend the job using ABORTJOB or BREAKJOB. I am unable to change the queue
that the job is running in. There are no messages to reply to. The job has
released the tape drive and has been verifying the restore for about 4 hours
now. HP's advice is to wait it out or do a reboot. This job is utilizing
CPU and interfering with production. A reboot is not a possibility. Any
advice on how to kill this job?

I have a 996/400 running MPE/iX 5.506.

Thank you in advance,

Jennifer Ramaglia
