I have used:

01 WS-DATELINE PIC X(27).

CALL INTRINSIC "DATELINE" USING WS-DATELINE.

Several years ago, HP came out with some REAL nice intrinsics for date
manipulation. You can use those to backtrack days or future days, as well
as change formats and get day of week, etc. They are a little difficult to
set up, but work fabulously well !

Subject: variable within cobol.

I'm looking for one that give me the day of week. Preferably a number. But
I can live with a string that says 'wednesday' or 'wed' or similar.

I'm thinking similar to 'current-date' which returns mmddyycc.

I know there are a bunch of HP variables in mpe. Hpday being the best.

TIA....
