My problem has been solved. I wanted to be able to use the
intrinsics in a program written in Splash! to read a bytestream
file, emulating a "file = fopen("name", "rb");" C statement.

Gavin Scott supplied me with the correct answer: Use HPFOPEN, passing
it item number 77, value of 2.
