Paul,

I don't supposed any of those files from 2027 are horse racing results
or lottery winning numbers? Just a thought.

Subject: FTP message: You've GOT to be joking

That is the message that I get after I connect to our HP3000 from a
newly
arrived HP3000 928, and try to issue any FTP command (get, put, dir,
etc...).

Said message is 'hard coded' within "FTPSRVR.ARPA.SYS" and I assume it
is
issued due to the 'unorthodox' network connection. The new machine is
located on a private network behind a firewall (we are trying to
duplicate
the environment that it came from). Users use a 'citrix ICA client' to
connect to a specific address, which is then 'translated' to the private
network. I assume that when the ftp client tries to tell the ftp server
on
the other HP3K what ip address to use for their data transfer, the
server
'laughs' at the fact that a 'private' address is provided.

Another odd issue with this machine is the fact that most of the
'system'
files (files in accounts that came with the OS) have ALL of their dates
set
to "Jun 29, 2027". This 928 was purchased from HP about one year ago
and
came pre-configured with MPE/iX 6.5. I don't think that any Y2K
simulation
has been done on this machine. What I'm wondering is if, for some
unknown
reason, HP loaded these files with these erroneous dates.

I only found out about it because every time I'd issue an MPEX 'help'
command, MPEX would issue a message that it needed to 're-index' the
help
file. It turns out that MPEX makes that decision by checking it the
'moddate' of "CICAT.PUB.SYS" is greater than the 'moddate' of its index
file, and thus the 're-indexing'.

Could anyone that has a similar 928 check the dates of some of the
'system'
files.

Regards
Paul Christidis
