Thanks to all who responded with help: Jeff, Goetz, Larry, and possbily
others whose messages I didn't get.

I went into SYSGEN, switched the basegroup, and made my configuration
changes permanent there, then rebooted with START NORECOVERY.  Gee,
everything's worked great since then...
