For all of you who are sitting on the edge of your chairs, anxiously waiting
for the next installment of "Typing Tips from the 1970's", one person wrote me
privately today:
> just as a side note; i was an 'admin assistant' back in the days, and we had
> ibm executives and selectrics. if you had a proportional line to center, you
> typed it out. Removed it, measured it (the typed line), then on a new sheet
> you found center and back spaced to 1/2 the measurement of the line and
> typed it. voila! centered proportional spacing.

> later, electric typewriters with memory (like olivettis) made it much
easier
