Speculations about who made which decision, etc. aside, I can't help
wondering why so much is being made of the fact that Winston Prather is a
member of the transition team. The idea seems to be that this is proof that
Winston wanted the 3000 to go away for some unstated, sneaky reason, or that
the 3000's demise is connected to the merger. I can think of several other
reasons why he might be on the team: Perhaps his boss felt that as the
manager of a division that is winding down its operation, he might have some
time to devote to this extra project. Maybe he was given the job because he
is a team player who can get the job done. Perhaps he volunteered for the
assignment. He might have done so because he wanted to have some say about
what the post-merger company would look like, or he might want to help
insure that he will have a job after CSY shuts its doors.

Perhaps I am naive, but I don't see why this assignment is regarded as
sinister. There may be some connection between the merger and the 3000 EOL,
but I don't see that this "revelation" makes that any more likely.
