If you are looking for something to run on some other box, and to notify you
if your 3000 goes "off the radar", well, I guess it depends on what other
box you want to run on. If you want to check one 3000 from another (fine so
long as BOTH stay up, baring lightening strikes), then you can use Telamon's
TelAlert and some clever scripting.

I recall someone favorably mentioning on this list a product that I believe
is PC-based, and inexpensive, called IPCheck. I know that a network admin
here loves it for his needs.
