I did this (for Oracle Apps on a NCR box) a year ago. We used MS Power
Point initially
(was trying to move it to Coral Draw).
Basically you design your form, print to a HPLJ 3 printer -- to a file.
Then edit out some initial PCL codes from 1st and last of file (like
reset, copies, source/target bins).
Add the overlay sequences, and its ready to go.

I choose LJ3 because at the time I didn't know PJL. Printing from
windows to LJ4 added PJL to the
output file and I haven't analyses it on what to edit out.

A paper I presented to the Oracle Users group uses MSPaint for an
example.
It's in MSword -- I can email a copy if desired -- even some demos.

I did the following as a test for Client Systems: (Please pardon the 2
attachments - they are small
300 bytes each)

I had sent this earlier but I think mail failed at my end. So here it is
again.
 <<csovr.prn>>
from the dos prompt you can do: copy /b csover.prn + c:\autoexec.bat
prn
and get this overlay.

 <<hpovr.prn>>
This is the same file but with return-linefeed after each pcl command
line. I am not up on ix5.5 so
no experience with PCL files as in PCLELITE.HPENV.SYS. But from viewing
this file, it appears that
the spooler reads each line, trims trailing spaces, and only sends the
PCL codes. Thus this hpovr
file should work by appending it to your PCLELITE file.

Give it a try.
