I for one have lived the horror story and I've never been more happy to
spend (the company's) money to get off of the 12Hs.  If you have a low
amount of I/O then the 12Hs might be for you.  In a heavy I/O
environment, you wouldn't like to see just how slow your system can
perform.

No urban myth here.  We had serious performance problems.  We are
running at a minimum of 4-5 times faster on the XP256 disc array and
this is without any changes to memory or any other system component.
Yes, you read that right 400% - 500% better!!!
