I *really* like (APC) UPS' that you can connect to the network (and no, not
the 'powerchute'-type). From the 3000 you can poll the UPS every few
minutes ('are you ok?' 'yes, i'm ok'....'are you ok?' 'yes, i'm
ok'....etc...) to see if it's switched over to battery or not.
IF this polling detects a switch-over, you can start shutting down the
system and if your release of mpe is new enough....even do a real shutdown.
(Kinda nice to have this work...and sit back an smile while everyone else
is running in circles ;-) - d 'why, yes I have all the bits and
pieces to make this work'
