An excert from Rich Sevcik's comments in the November issue of
the HP-3000 Advisor might be construed as good news for the 3K
community--depending on the meaning of the word "possible. What
do YOU think ???

....................................................................
The Significance of the PA-8000

"With the PA-8000, we've created the world's most powerful microprocessor,
offering the high performance required by real world applications. The PA-8000
also is a major milestone in the continuing evolution of PA-RISC. With the
PA-8000, we have successfully made the transition to a 64-bit computing
platform, making it possible to bring 64-bit capabilities, such as large
files, to the HP 3000."

"More importantly, this transition has been accomplished without disrupting
customers' environments. The PA-8000 offers complete binary compatibility for
existing applications. I see this as a continuation of over 20 years of
protecting customers' investments in the HP 3000."
.........................................................................

Notice that the statement actually contained the key phrase "HP 3000".
Perhaps the scheduled January announcement of the 5-Year plan for the 3K
might actually be something to look forward too after all ............
