I recently went through this with our CE. According to him, that was a
problem with early firmware on the fast-wide cards, and later revisions
fixed that (he says firmware rev 3636 or higher is what you should be
using). We have a couple bays where we have three and four of these
cards stacked right on top of each other and haven't had problems.
However, there *is* a limit to the number of FWD cards you can put in
one of those bays.
According to our CE (hey, Brad, look, I'm quoting you on the HP3000-L!)
you can only put 5 full-height FWD SCSI cards in an I/O expansion bay.
He said the reason is that one full-height SCSI card draws more power
and generates more heat than two half-height cards, and that because
it's a fast-wide card performance would be degraded (or worse) if you
put too much overall load on the I/O bay, hence the limit of 5 FWD cards
to a bay.
