As an interesting Friday afternoon diversion, I fired up our 7980XC tape
drive, and pull out the oldest store tape I could find - May 1986.
Restored just fine!  Nearly 15 years - I'm impressed!

Tapes are stored in a dry,dark, concrete room in the center of our office
building.
