A small group of people are trying to get that ball rolling.  We've started a
separate listserver to discuss the issues and work out the details.  I've
also setup a place off the main sambaix site where the list archives are
available and where other documents/tools/etc will be made available as
they are created.  If your interested in the project, go to:
http://www.sambaix.com/porting and poke around.  Although we haven't
really begun yet, there is instructions on joining the porting list.

Does anyone know if Samba 2.x -- which apparently has DES built-in to
support NT's encrypted passwords (as well as PDC support) -- will be
