By Cesca Antonelli
Cupertino, California, March 19 (Bloomberg) -- Hewlett-Packard Co. said it believes it has won investor approval for the $21 billion purchase of Compaq Computer Corp., a victory for Chief Executive Carly Fiorina after more than six months of fighting dissident director Walter Hewlett.
Based on a preliminary estimate of shareowner proxies, the company said it has received sufficient votes to approve the deal, Hewlett-Packard said in a news release distributed by Business Wire. Official certification of the results is expected in the next few weeks, the computer maker said.
