I have looked through the 6.0, 6.0pp1, 6.5 and 6.5pp2 communicators
and can find nothing about the checkpoint improvement code, as mentioned
in the help command for VOLUTIL.

My questions

1) What does it improve?
2) Any reasons not to turn it on?
3) Does it really make any difference?
