Surely we could agree on a few points here:

1. The US and most Western countries have at some point supplied weapons or
military expertise to some very unsavoury characters around the world
including Saddam and Bin Laden.
2. Military forces representing the West have done some pretty nasty things
(Black ops, South America, etc)
3. All governments lie (Irangate, Watergate, etc)

As you can see from this article, the US has in general supported dictators
when it suits them, so it has absolutely no moral high ground here.

Added to this the fact that we have little to no evidence that Iraq has any
weapons of mass destruction or that he would even be interested in using
them against the West, then you have no basis for war.

The only possible conclusion is that the Western allies want control of the
Oil.

Some weeks ago I watched a TV interview with a few of the Iranian "students"
who invaded the American embassy in Teheran and held the diplomats hostage
for 444 days. In so many words, they all said they were wrong at the time
and the oppressive regime that replaced the Shah's was far worse. They
stopped just short of saying that if they knew then what they know now, they
would never have done it. I think they were a bit (a lot) scared of saying
anything more than that but you could see it in their eyes.

At any rate, it is my understanding that the situation in Iran is nearing
the explosive point and the population is fed up with the Mullahs and want
them gone. They definitely do not hate us.
