Today's online edition of Infoworld has a couple items on HP. One is an
interview with Mr. Platt, and the other is a short "armchair quarterback"
on what the company needs to do.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid Mr. Platt is missing the boat on Linux:

InfoWorld: Has HP been tracking the rise of Linux?

Platt: It's got a lot going for it and it's coming up really fast.
The problem it has to solve is that you need to get some
real-world applications supported on it as a primary core,
not some guy in a back room. At the point that those guys
embrace it, we'll have a Linux strategy. Big time ISV
support is really the key issue.

"Some guy in a back room"??
Otherwise, the interview is pretty interesting.

Separately, HP issued a press release today about incorporated Merced in
a future NetServer system.

"The first NetServer systems incorporating the Merced processor chip
are slated to be available in mid-2000."

I wonder if that's meant to coincide the NT 5.0's shipping date. ;)
