I'm assuming the HP 3000 is in San Jose (with you).
1) Can you ping the San Jose router from the HP? Use PING.NET.SYS.
If not, check the IP Addresses of both the router and the HP.
They must be on the same subnet.
2) Telnet into the San Jose router and ping the Atlanta Router's back side
address from there. If you can't ping the address of the LAN connection
at the other end, then you have a problem with the routers.
3) Use the GUIDED configuration option of NMMGR to create a default gateway
half that
points to the router you pinged in step one. This gateway should look like
this:
Path: NETXPORT.NI.PERFTECH.INTERNET.PUCCINI
[C 199.034.021 002] Neighbor Gateway IP Internet Address
Configured Reachable Networks
IP Network Address IP Mask (Optional) Hops
[@ ] [255.255.255.240] [ ]
[ ] [ ] [ ]
<< screen snipped >>
My router (named PUCCINI) is at .002, the @ sends all packets that are not
listed in OTHER gateway halves to that address (the DEFAULT route) and the
subnet matches my network configuration of 199.34.21.xxx/28.
Save the gateway, validate, and restart the LAN or issue:
:nscontrol update=all;net=<<your net name>>
to update any IP address changes and/or route changes.
4) repeat step one then
5) ping the backside of the router in Atlanta (as in step 2) from the
HP. It should now work.
