Hello Friends:

John Pickering asked in this public place what Cognos would charge
him to change his current tier-based Powerhouse license for a
929KS020 to a FOS-based license for the same machine. Conrad Whittall
of Cognos answered, "it depends on the number of users your 929 is
licensed for."

John, since I'm fascinated to see how this (relatively) new Cognos
licensing works, how about telling Conrad here in public how many
users your 929 is licensed for? ( I guess we also need you to report
on how much capability you need: full development, reporting only,
whatever.)

Conrad, once you've seen John's answer, how about then providing an
answer to his question, for all of us to see? Maybe the answer is
easy, once you've got all the data on John's site from him.

I don't think John was asking if a FOS-based license was a better
deal than Cognos' classic, tier-based one. I think he was asking how
much it would be to get his tier-based license -- the kind that
thousands of Powerhouse and Quiz users have -- changed to the newer
FOS-based one.

From Conrad's comments, I understand that even when Cognos customers
on the 3000 stay within the same FOS-based price tier for their
Cognos products, if they upgrade within their tier, they still pay
$750 to Cognos for an "administration fee." I leave any comments on
such a fee for changing paperwork to those who have to pay them.

Ron (If you're thinking this might end up in the next NewsWire, you'd
be right) Seybold
