FYI all who might still be looking for "better value" at HP World;
i.e.: cheaper hotel rooms: After checking around a bit I decided
to take a chance on the Pickwick Hotel, at 132 W. Broadway.
The free trolley to the convention center stops ~across the street
out their back door; plus they are between two of the "official"
HP World conference hotels on Broadway: The Westgate and the
Wyndham Emerald Plaza (the Pickwick is one block west of the
Westgate). This means that besides the trolley it will be easy to
catch the Interex shuttle buses making the usual frequent runs
between the conference hotels and the convention center. Free
airport shuttle with Cloud 9 Shuttle. $50 per night for one. Beats
paying $110 at the Westgate or $129 at the Wyndham.... :-)

DISCLAIMER: I have never stayed at the Pickwick before. But
FWIW, they are at: (619) 234-9200 or (800) 826-0009 . 227
units, 65 channel cable TV, lounge, voicemail & parking. Sounded
like they still had quite a few rooms left.. BUT: A lot of other
places were full already; and places that were not were in some
cases charging more than the rates posted on the sandiego web
site, because "August is so busy". $70 per night for one was
common..... oh, yeah: The J-Street Inn says they are completely
full for the entire run of HP World....
