DataExpress/ODBCLink will run over serial as well - our first customer for
ODBCLink wanted to get data over modems so we do serial or modems ... as long
as you are able to extract and return a small amount of data to the desktop the
serial connection is very good ...

The performance for ODBC (or any data extraction) is related to the number of
records read, the number selected and the speed of the connection relative to
the number of bytes returned.

If what you want does serial scans of large data sets then it will take
education for your users to understand the the "hour glass" time requirement;-)
(This is the same with TCP/IP connections too).
