Is the SWC you bought new or used? The reason I ask is because it might not
have the latest firmware, which is A1.9, I believe. See instructions for
getting the latest firmware at:
 http://docs.hp.com/hpux/onlinedocs/hw/swc/firmware/index.html.

Subject: Secure Web Console

On Sept 5th I wrote the following:
******
I want to retire the old terminal, and connect the M.P.E. console to a
Terminal Emulator using a COM port on a NT workstation. In fact I have done
this, but it hangs sometimes, and the only way to get the console back is to
power cycle the HP-3000, and restart the terminal emulator. Has anyone on
the list done this before, or have any pointers to do this the right way?
******

This list is great, I always get the full spectrum of opinions, and
suggestions. When I asked about console emulation (above) , Secure Web
Console was mentioned in almost all replies. The reason I asked about
console emulation was because when I used Reflections, or Minisoft, or
QCTERM, the console would sometimes hang, so I was thinking that maybe some
serial communications settings of some kind was not set correctly, and maybe
someone on the list would say, "make sure your parity and stop bits are set
to...., and disable the ......". But most everyone mentioned Secure Web
Console, so I thought maybe HP does some weird things with serial console
I/O, and getting a SWC is the proper solution because it no doubt has all
these serial communication problems workout. After all it is an HP product,
designed to do exactly what I want, makes more sense. So, I purchased a
Secure Web Console to replace the old HP700 terminal. Serial communications
has always been a pain, so many variables to consider, now with the SWC we
have Networked Serial Communications. My new SWC hangs just like the other
terminal emulators, so I am back to the old HP700 terminal, it's simple and
reliable. If anyone knows why my SWC is so flaky, I'd really appreciate the
info.

Thanks for listining ;-)
