Roger,

     I don't know exactly what pins 42 and 43 do, but I can share my performance
     of those two pins with you from my system.  I have a KS959/300 running
     MPE/iX 5.0, PowerPatch 4.  My current load is about 400-430 sessions peak,
     7 full-time background jobs and up to 12 ad hoc batch jobs.  The program
     load is predominantly third party MRP II package software and PowerHouse
     7.29C full-development environment.  According to the LaserRx plots, my
     users experience sub-second response time more than 90% of the time during
     peak first-shift hours.

     I checked my Glancexl monitor for pins 42 and 43.  I found that neither pin
     has consumed more than 1/100 of a percent of total CPU since my machine was
     restarted this past Monday morning.  Total disk I/O's were 1.4k for pin 42
     and 5.1k for pin 43.

     Using the "display files" option from within the glance "pin screen" I
     found that pin 42 has two files open, H00F587A.PUB.SYS and H00587B.PUB.SYS.
     Pin 43 also has two files open, H00F5C3A.PUB.SYS and H00F5C3B.PUB.SYS.

     Hopefully, this extra information will point the folks from HP who are in
     the know to the "right" answer!

I apologize if this is the second posting. I sent the first one to the old

System:        969/KS400
Operating System:   Version 5.0
Sessions: 310-320
Batch Jobs:    7

I am writing this while I wait on HPRC to call me back.  SOS and Glancexl
are showing P42 and P43 (owned by the system) making 50-60 I/Os per second.
 SOS tells me they are writes.  Both Pins are in the "A" queue at 13.  They
are averaging 3-4% of the CPU.  P11 is beginning to show 40-50 I/Os per
second.

An examination of the logfiles reveals nothing unusual.

QPRI=A13; CPUTIME = 1:25:45; STATE=WAIT; PIN=42; PROGRAM=(..)

:SHOWPROC 43;SYSTEM reveals
QPRI=A13; CPUTIME = 1:24;44; STATE=WAIT; PIN=43; PROGRAM=(..)

We restarted the system on Tuesday at 1:30 PM.  Does this mean that approx..
8% of my CPU is spent caring for these two processes?  Does anyone know what
these 2 pins are doing?

I notice this same symptom when we first installed the box.  The number of
hits to the disc were high  with only 1 session and console.  The I/O
controller card was replaced because of system hangs during backup.  The
high disc I/Os went away.

Anybody with ideas?  I am still waiting on the Response Center.

HPRC does not believe this is a hardware problem.
