To clarify Gilles' final comment:
ORBiT's BACKUP/3000 software solution supports FASTSEARCH on the

If you're on 5.0, you will need a patch (MPEJXC9A, I think - but it may
have been superceded).
On 5.5, there should be no problem at all.
In either case, simply use the device name DLT4000, with the appropriate
path, etc. in sysgen.
Even if you can't get the appropriate patch for 5.0, you should still be
able to configure and use the DLT4000 by using the "USER" id, and
appropriately manually configuring the other parameters in sysgen.
Incidentally, I've noticed that current versions of DLT4000 drivers do not
support the fastsearch feature most of us have learned to really appreciate
with our 4mm drives. So expect to wait 25 minutes or more to restore
somewhere far into the tape - instead of the few seconds you have been used
to for your 4mm media. There may be a patch in the works to correct this.
It could be that some or all of the various 3rd-party backup software
products do not have this limitation, but I don't know.
