You may not necessarily need to buy a full-blown source control package,
but you should either consider it or consider using rcs (already
available on 5.5 under POSIX). The question really isn't a matter of
source control, but of configuration management. This can be nothing
more that some rigid procedures to follow, or as sophisticated as what
what I've implemented at ORBiT. That is too lengthy a discussion for
this forum, but perhaps I'll publish an article on it in the future.

However, the salient point is that the long term costs to you of
software development can be mitigated by a good configuration management
scheme. If you have multiple developers with their hands in the source,
you should really consider this, even if you don't "need" it.
