The simplest option, by far, is to not even try reading a STORE tape on
a system other than an HP 3000.  HP has not documented the format.

Our company could probably provide a utility that could read it on HP-UX,
but the cheapest & quickest solution is to generate a non-STORE-format
tape in the first place!

You could use "tar" on MPE to create a tar tape, or
"dd" to copy the data to the tape in a straightfoward manner, and
then use "tar" or "dd" on a Unix machine.
