The 7978 cannot be updated to SCSI. The 7980XC can be upgraded, but the
last time we did some upgrades with the official HP kit, there was
problems with the firmware revision and the current MPE driver that
caused major problems. Remember, the 7980SX was supported on other
operating systems, so the firmware needed to handle all of them. Well,
in spite of the HPRC's best efforts, a fix to the firmware or driver was
not forthcoming. We finally ended up seeking out specific 7980 board
sets on the used market until we found a combination that worked. It was
a very old firmware revision that finally did the trick. Be
forewarned...
