There have been several articles and advertising campaigns lately in the
"3000 media" about end of support, particularly on the 9x7. Users have been
lead to believe that April 2002 is the next Y2K for the 9x7 and that they'd
better jump ship soon or they'll fall off the edge of the earth. Users of
the 9x7 need to realize that they don't have to be held hostage by the HP
2002 deadline. If you're happy with your machine you can keep it until
you're ready to change. You have other viable options in the 3000
marketplace other than HP-sanctioned channels. Here at Computech Systems
we've built our core business around the 3000. We buy them, rebuild them,
sell and service them. We have very strong feelings about the long-term
vitality of this fine platform and have the procedures and inventory in
place to extend its life into the foreseeable future.

Subject: HP3000's Future?

I was just wondering what your opinion of the future of the HP3000 series.
I have been on it since 1977 and truly love the system. I have seen it
decline in the 90s as it was replaced by "better" systems (mostly
client-server). In the past year, I have seen 4 companies reverse direction
after discovering that client-server is slow, unreliable, and high-cost to
maintain. Amisys is the latest. They have dumped there non-HP version due
to lack of interest from customers. I just wanted to hear other people's
feeling for the future.
                                Thanks,
