As long as you are running O/S version MPE/iX 5.5, with at least powerpatch
1, you can telnet to your HP3000 via the HP3000-included telnet server
software.

To start the telnet server software, you need to:

1. log-on as MANAGER.SYS and copy incnfsmp.net,inetdcnf.net
2. modify inetdcnf.net.sys to remove the #'s, which serve to comment out
the lines, from the lines containing telnet. (near the end of the file).
3. copy servsamp.net,services.net
4. NEWLINK /etc/inetd.conf,/SYS/NET/INETDCNF
5. NEWLINK /etc/services,/SYS/NET/SERVICES

These above 5 items are performed once.

Then, to start the telnet server, stream JINETD.NET.SYS. This will launch a
job will runs at all times. You can simply abort the job to bring down the
telnet server.

Now you should be able to connect to the HP3000 via this Lantronix box.

If you are not running MPE/iX 5.5, you need to utilize some DTC hardware
(and accompanying PC software) alternatives to be able to use incoming
telnet.

The software alternative is more cost-effective.
