Subject: Re: 120M Tapes In DDS-2 -Reply

We just upgraded from a C1503B DDS to a C1504B DDS2, supposedly. Do
these "little babies" support 120m tapes? So far, we haven't seen any
marked improvement in the upgrade.

C'est la vie.

Wayne,

Beats me. We're running 2 C1533 (according to the label) drives.
They handle 120M and 90M co-mingled tapes quite nicely.
Takes a bit under 60 minutes to Turbostore 5GB or so driving
them in paralell from their own dedicated SCSI card on a 987.
Tape length doesn't make any difference in peformance, just
how much you can jam on one tape.

We have some other model DDSII drive on a 9000 but don't have
much experiance with it, seems 'bout the same though. We
also have a DLT drive on the 9k. If you need performance, get
some $$$ and get one. We get about 2GB in just over 10
minutes. Don't forget the $150 per tape for that DLT drive.

Don't know about DDS3. Anyone care to chime in on that?
