Excuse the plug, but I know that some of you are running Sun
hardware. Vaske Computer Solutions now offers Sun sales, support, service
and training, much as we have done for Hewlett Packard environments since
the early 90s. We have Sun-authorized engineers on staff at 2 Minnesota
locations, and we are training our field technicians in our other Midwest
offices. Among the sites we currently support are the technology offices
of both the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin, both of whom have contracted
with us for 24 x 7 Sun hardware and software support.
We also have a Sun-certified training center in Minnesota, and we offer
Linux courses, too. Below is a recent course listing from our training
center.
We'd love to be of service if you have any Sun hardware. Please contact me
if you'd like to discuss in more detail. I hope all is well with all of you.
Sincerely,
John Lee

Week of 4/2/07
SA-245 Shell Programming: The Shell Programming for System Administrators
course provides students with the skills to read, write, and debug UNIX
shell scripts. The course begins by describing simple scripts to automate
frequently executed commands and continues by describing conditional logic,
user interaction, loops, menus, traps, and functions. This course is
intended for system administrators who have mastered the basics of a UNIX
Operating Environment (OE) such as the Solaris OE or Linux and who would
like to read and understand the various boot scripts and write their own
scripts to automate their day-to-day tasks. This course explores, in
detail, the Bourne and Korn shell scripting languages.
Week of 4/9/07
SA-200 Solaris 10 Intermediate System Administration: This class provides
students with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform essential
system administration tasks in the Solaris 10 OS on both Sparc and x64/x86
platforms, including installing software, managing file systems, performing
system boot procedures, performing user and security administration,
managing network printers and system processes, and performing system
backups and restores. This course is taken in preparation for Part I of the
Sun System Administration certification exam.
GL-314 Linux Troubleshooting: This course is designed to give the Linux
system administrator an in-depth look at common and not so common Linux
system problems. Linux system problems explored in this course are
frequently encountered with the administration of Linux Systems. This
course takes the approach to troubleshooting with a "break-fix" philosophy,
25% lecture, and 75% lab intensive content. Lab exercises contain a pool of
over 120 simple and complex real-world troubleshooting scenarios. Lab work
is flexible enough to satisfy the expectations of experienced to
intermediate administrators through ranked difficulty of scenarios.
Students will find the approach of this course of structure with
flexibility very rewarding. Lab tasks let students choose the type of
scenarios they would like to tackle, with hints, helps, and solutions to
make learning very effective.
Week of 4/16

seeking to fill in gaps in their knowledge. The curriculum is designed to
provide hands-on experience. Subjects focused on during this class include
the Linux filesystem and how to manipulate it; the basic UNIX and Linux
notions of pipes, redirection, regular expressions, and other tools for
performing complex tasks; the management of processes and jobs; vi, the
standard UNIX editor; and the ability to construct shell scripts to
automate routine or difficult operations.
Week of 4/23

Linux to day-to-day administrative tasks such as management of user
accounts and disk space. Also covered is setup and maintenance of many of
the most popular network services available for Linux, including servers
for DNS, SMB, e-mail servers, FTP, web, and caching proxy. Special
attention is paid to the concepts needed to implement these services
securely, and to the trouble-shooting skills which will be necessary for
real-world administration of network and system services.
