We are about to rewrite an application that was developed using COBOL and
View. We are currently investigating language alternatives. So far we have
taken a look at Powerhouse and Speedware. I was wondering if anybody had
any other suggestions on languages to look at; also any experience you have
had with said language. The language used needs to run on the 3000 and we
would prefer that it be able to run using 'dumb' terminals. I would really
appreciate any feedback anyone has.

Ernest, You should take a look at HP's Transact. While it may not be as powerful in some areas as Speedware or Powerhouse, it is:

1. Much cheaper.
2. Easy to learn.
3. Supports the use of a dictionary.
4. Excellent for reducing the amount of code required, particularly for Image - VPlus applications, both of which it fully supports.
5. Has an active SIG to promote it and help new users.

Regards,
