Your right of course.  I haven't explored the
new online configuration methods yet, so that
explains my statement about SYSGEN.  I should
have mentioned that as an option also, but it
didn't come to mind at the time (sincere oversight).

I just wanted to modify your final (parenthetical)
statement.  You *can* configure the LDEV with SYSGEN, but
this requires you to reboot the box -- no change there.
However, you can use the IOCONFIG utility (also new with
5.5) to configure your device with the system up and
running.  It then takes effect immediately (no reboot
required).  The new configuration is written through to
the system configuration files, so it will continue to be
effective following a reboot.
