DISCFREE variable?; Stalled transaction

1. Other than writing the output of DISCFREE to a disk file and massaging the
file (I know how to do that), is there any way to use a variable to test free
space?

2. I recall reading somewhere that MPE/iX 6.5 had some expansion of the
Transaction Manager sizing that would deal with the Stalled Transaction error
but something else had to be configured at the same time. If so, what is that
something else?
