Depends on your level of paranoia. I usually make the stage, set boot
to it, and run that way until you are "comfortable" with the new patches.
Then you can commit the stage and cut a CSLT with SYSGEN for keeps.
If you lose the {long name} volume set you're back to before patching,
but you can update from your last CSLT. On the other hand, if you do
an UPDATE from the CSLT, you invalidate your stage areas.
