Subject: [HP3000-L] HP3000 Migrations

Hello HP3000 Listers,

Today is MBFoster's 40th anniversary of being in business - the HP3000 market is our home market and we are grateful for the support, suggestions and collaboration with us as we provided and evolved products and services over the years. I am proud of the team and want to thank all the folks who have worked with us over the years.

I thought the MBFoster team should mention that we have helped customers with a number of different approaches to Migrations. Our approach has expanded over the pasy 15 years and we have built solutions based on a number of different technologies - During assessment we assist the customer through a 22 point decision tree which takes into account the current baseline and the options for target environments. If you are looking at the options, we have a webinar recorded that covers the different ways the MBFoster team has helped customers address the problem here: https://www.mbfoster.com/blog/2017/01/06/hp3000-emulation-options-ez-mpe-demonstration/<https://www.mbfoster.com/blog/2017/01/06/hp3000-emulation-options-ez-mpe-demonstration/>

For organizations that have not got an inventory of their applications we work with the organization to put an application inventory in place which can be used for deciding what the current state of the applications are for business fit, provide an assessment of cost of operation, document the HR requirement and produce a training plan. We help with a triage process for the
3 Rs of migration which detail the plans for Rehost, Replace and Retire. https://www.mbfoster.com/blog/2017/03/28/endless-possibilities-apm/<https://www.mbfoster.com/blog/2017/03/28/endless-possibilities-apm/> Just for a framework this will be similar to planning a move between houses. Some of the applications will move, some will be replaced and some will be retired (be aware of system of record compliance requirements).

Sometimes we just help the customer with data migration - building the loader files for the new application which these days sometimes mean loading a cloud based application we call this cloudboarding on AWS, Azure and other hosted applications. We bring UDACentral to help with the data move - a solution to move between different databases including Image and Eloquence as well as the usual RDBMs like Oracle, SQLServer DB2, Sybase, MySQL, MSAccess, etc, You can rent UDACentral from us and we will train your team to use UDACentral - for some shops it is really useful to train on a single solution to move between any of 25 plus data sources. Last week on the first day of class, the customer moved the million plus rows from Sybase to SQLServer in under 5 minutes. In another case a script that was going to take 8 days was replaced with UDACentral which moved the same 80 million records in 90 minutes ... 28 times as fast. We have a webinar coming up on May 24, 2017 ... you can register for no cost at https://www.mbfoster.com/blog/2017/05/01/sneak-peek-udacentral/<https://www.mbfoster.com/blog/2017/05/01/sneak-peek-udacentral/>

Sometimes we help the customer get a Software replacement framework in place and provide a neutral viewpoint on application replacement.

If you are going to a Windows environment we also built a scheduler for Windows which has 16 queues, a job fence and the ability to set up standard jobs - like scripts for day end or month end processing.

These days we are helping folks upgrade from Windows 2003 to Windows 2016, and all the variants in between - if you need help we would be grateful for the opportunity to partner with you on the migration, replacement or decommissioning of the system. We also have helped with Linux, Unix, IBM iseries (AS400) and other operating systems.

Contact the MBFoster team if you have questions, we will take great care of you just like our other customers.

Thank you HP3000 community for all your support,

Birket Foster

Subject: Fresche Legacy conversion?

Question about converting from HP3000. Has anyone used Fresche Legacy to do there conversion and if so what option did you use? We're in the discovery process with them now. Wanting to know if you converted and processes used.

1. What system did you convert to (Unix/Windows/Linux)?

2. What system did you convert from(HP3000 a-class/N-class?) and how busy was the system/ Number of users?

3. Are you still running that system?

4. Did you convert to using the Eloquence DB emulation?

5. Performance after conversion good or bad?

6. Any Do's or Don't?

7. Primary Code base(Speedware/Powerhouse/Cobol/Fortran/?)? Amount of code converted?

Any experiences would be great. You can e-mail me direct.
