I'm not entirely sure, but unless you physically purge and rebuild the database, there may be remnants of previous entries in the file [but don't quote me on this] HOWEVER...

ok, at least we don't have to worry about tab's and esc's :)
but... the thought occurs -- could you, by sheer chance, be ENDING your password with the special character "&"? This is MPE's line continuation character, which Security/3000 may be honoring [though it doesn't make sense in this context...]

hmmm... if that's the case, and you aren't ending the password with something goofy, then I'd suggest your next call would be to VEsoft's support -- they are [or were when I was there ;) ] pretty good about figuring out things like this.
